Natalie Portman shines as troubled pop star Celeste in the edgy new trailer for Vox Lux, highlighting all the glamour — and darkness — that comes with stardom.
Directed by Brady Corbet, the movie’s setting begins in 1999, after two sisters survive a violent tragedy and compose a song about their experiences, propelling one of them to fame. The film then flashes to 2017, where sister Celeste (Portman) is a pop star struggling with the pressures of fame and motherhood. Her teenage daughter joins in on Celeste’s fight through her career fraught with scandals, but soon another terrifying force begins to wreak havoc on them.
The trailer is complete with meltdowns, paparazzi and mysterious gunmen, leaving tons of unanswered questions. Portman will star alongside Jude Law, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin and other prominent artists.
Vox Lux is set to officially release on Dec. 7.
