The trailer for the upcoming animated film UglyDolls arrived Thursday (March 28) with the voices of Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Pitbull, Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton and more featured in the enticing preview.
Clarkson’s new song “Broken & Beautiful” plays throughout the trailer, which showcases its multicolored plush toy-like characters and their “perfect” doll counterparts, who are all voiced by a star-studded cast. UglyDolls is inspired by “the unique and beloved global plush toy phenomenon launched in 2001” and follows the story of imperfect toys who travel to the town of Perfection in the hopes of becoming good enough for children to play with.
Clarkson voices the pink main character, Moxy, while Jonas voices a dapper, blond doll named Lou who tries to dampen her optimism. “Do you honestly think your little band of sock puppets stands a chance here? It’s probably better if you just go back where you belong,” Lou says.
A self-assured Moxy then hits back with a confident statement: “We’re not going anywhere! Our flaws make us who we are, those are all worth fighting for.”
The trailer also shows some comical moments in the movie, including one where a blue dog-like plush toy named Ugly Dog (Pitbull) tries to sweet-talk one of the dolls but doesn’t do so well. “Tú vienes aquí mucho?” Ugly Dog asks (translation: You come here often?) but receives a “hard pass.”
The movie (out May 3) features an all-star cast of voice-overs from Clarkson, Jonas, Shelton, Wanda Sykes, Gabriel Iglesias, Pitbull, Monáe, Rexha, Charli XCX, Lizzo, Emma Roberts and many more. It will also feature a soundtrack available on April 26 with original songs from Clarkson, Jonas, Monáe, Rexha, Pentatonix and Anitta, among others.
