Tuesday night’s (Feb. 27) segment of “Freestylin’ With The Roots” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon made for some hilarious antics, a few candid rhymes by front man Tariq Trotter (a.k.a. Black Thought), and a surprise appearance by Bruce Willis.
The skit kicked off with the host jumping into the crowd to ask a few audience members to share a bit about themselves; the musicians then took that info and proceeded to drop related raps.
In a very impressive show of ability, Black Thought freestyled about the audience member known as Sylvia — who also shared that she was from New Jersey — as the band kicked off a Drake-sounding instrumental, due to the rapper enjoying a fifth consecutive week atop the Billboard Hot 100 with “God’s Plan.”
It got a little wonky with the second audience member, as a man named Billy proceeded to change things up by freestyling for himself, about taking his wife to the Oscars.
The crowning moment came when Fallon strolled up to a hooded member in the audience, who turned out to be none other than Bruce Willis. As the crowd erupted in applause, the Death Wish actor shared a few quirky things about himself — for example, his favorite instruments are wind instruments, and if he could write a song about himself, it’d be titled “The Man Who Forgot His Job.”
The band kicked off a Justin Timberlake-style beat and proceeded to wow the crowd with their Bruce Willis-inspired lyrics.
