Season 12’s champion was crowned on The Voice tonight, but first, the show packed in a lineup of live performances from returning contestants, huge music stars and coaches Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.
Team Adam’s former young pop artist Mark Isaiah opened up the evening of performances by singing “Despacito” with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. Team Gwen’s Brennley Brown sang with Rascal Flatts, tapping into her classic country sound.
Team Adam’s finalist Jesse Larson, who had a great night last night, took the stage with former Voice coach Cee Lo Green. Levine has said throughout the season that Larson’s singing reminds him of Green. Before their performance, a montage highlighted some of the best moments between Larson and his coach, who became very close over the course of the season.
Little Big Town and Team Blake finalist Lauren Duski also performed together, followed by an incredibly performance from Stefani and her former artist Hunter Plake. Together, they performed a creative, stripped-down rendition of her iconic song “Don’t Speak.” Stefani didn’t have an artist in the finale, and Plake was her best shot.
Alessia Cara and Zedd also performed, followed by an emotional performance of “Everybody Hurts” from Team Alicia’s finalist Chris Blue and Usher. Chris Stapleton performed his single “Either Way.”
Team Blake artist TSoul and Team Alicia artist Vanessa Ferguson both sang with the legendary Gladys Knight. Former The Voice coach Miley Cyrus took the stage next for a performance of “Malibu.” Cyrus dedicated the performance to Ariana Grande and those affected by the attack at Manchester Arena.
Cara took the stage again to perform with Shelton’s finalist Aliyah Moulden. They were a great match, sounding strong together and blending well.
After a stunning performance from future The Voice coach Jennifer Hudson, Carson Daly finally brought the other artists to the stage to announce the final results of season 12. Team Adam’s Larson came in fourth place, and Team Blake’s Moulden came in third place. After a commercial break, Daly announced the last of the results: Team Alicia’s Chris Blue won, and Team Blake’s Duski came in second. Keys bested Shelton despite the fact that he had two artists in the finale. She was thrilled, and Blue was overcome with emotion as he tried to close out the show with his original song.
