We’ve all had to adjust to the new normal, and The Masked Singer is no exception. The hit Fox costumed singing competition is gearing up for its fourth season, and things will be a bit different this time around. For the first time the audience at home will get an opportunity to vote on their favorite masked celebrity performers as part of a virtual studio audience due to crowd restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Judge Robin Thicke revealed the changes on Twitter on Thursday (Aug. 20), writing, “To #TheMaskedSinger fans out there – we want you in our “At-Home Audience” for Season 4! We’re doing things a little different & you can help decide who stays and who goes home each week while you watch. Let’s go!!” Interested at home voters can click here to register for a chance to be in the home audience.
According to the fine print, producers are looking for a team of Masked Singer superfans from across the country to participate in an online panel, which will get them exclusive access to the upcoming season’s performances. “You will be able to cheer along and (most importantly) vote for your favorite new Masked Singers as a part of our first ever At-Home Audience!” reads a statement on the show’s site. “Your votes will help decide who stays under the mask and moves on in the competition. The masks receiving the least amount of votes will be up for elimination and risk being unmasked.”
Anyone interested needs to sign a confidentiality agreement and appearances release, register for the episode you’d like to virtually attend and have a computer or smart phone with a webcam and streaming capabilities. Though a spokesperson for the show declined to comment at press time, according to Deadline, the series has resumed production for the fall season, which is slated to premier in the fall. While Hollywood continues struggling to reboot in the face of strict rules imposed by the novel coronavirus, the site reported that the show went back into production this week with “rigorous health and safety protocols in place,” including regular temperature checks, socials distancing and PPE equipment.
