Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco took to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night to talk about selling out four shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in 2019 and what it was like to meet one of his idols, Robert De Niro.
When Kimmel congratulated Mansicalco on accomplishing four sold-out shows at MSG, Maniscalco said, “I come from a negative family, so when they heard that, of course my father was like, ‘You’re gonna be tired, what are you doing?’ It’s never met with any type of positivity,” he hilariously explained.
Maniscalco then went on to discuss the first time he encountered De Niro while filming the upcoming Martin Scorsese movie The Irishman, in which he has a role alongside the esteemed actor. “They yelled cut once and we were standing face to face and we didn’t say a word for two minutes, we’re just staring at one another because I don’t know what this guy’s doing in his head! He’s like one of our best actors we’ve got and I’m just worried.”
He explained that their relationship evolved into a more social one after going to dinner and getting to know each other.
Mansicalco is set to sit down with Billboard‘s Dave Brooks on Tuesday, Nov. 13, for a 30-minute Q&A as part of the Billboard Live Music Summit, where he will discuss the rise of his career and how he’s become comedy’s biggest breakout star. (Find full Billboard Live Music Summit details here.)
