Ross Lynch has successfully transformed from Disney star to serial killer — at least on film.
In the disturbingly captivating first teaser trailer for My Friend Dahmer, Lynch is nearly unrecognizable as the infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer: broody, cold and strikingly isolated. The clip follows the R5 singer as he slumps through high school, throwing odd “fits” for classmates’ amusement and encountering bullies with a numb, almost inhuman apathy. Later, sitting hunched on a doctor’s table, he is declared “healthy” by his physician — even as he asks, “What about what’s on a patient’s mind?”
The movie, which premiered at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival in April — is based on a graphic memoir written by cartoonist Derf Backderf, a high school classmate of Dahmer’s. Fellow musician and onetime child star Alex Wolff, of the Nickelodeon TV series The Naked Brothers Band, stars as Derf.
