If anyone has figured out how we can all get dialed in to the Parks & Recreation phone tree, let us know. (Just please don’t give us Garry. We will not call him.) If you tuned in to Thursday night’s (April 30) reunion special of the beloved NBC sitcom, you know Leslie Knope and the whole gang were back, and as hilarious as ever.
It was heartwarming to see the still-cantankerous Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), eternally-cheery Knope (Amy Poehler) and her politician hubby Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott), always-sullen April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza) and puppy dog sweet Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt).
Plus, there was pragmatist Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones), constantly on-the-make Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari), as well as Garry (Jim O’Heir), Chris Trager (Rob Lowe), Donna (Retta), Jean-Ralphio Saperstein (Ben Schwartz) and Perd Hapley (Jay Jackson). There was even a cameo from one of the Tammys, though we won’t spoil which one.
But what really brought the chills was when the gang backed Andy on a tribute to mini horse Li’l Sebastian, who was memorably eulogized at end of season three with the song “5,000 Candles in the Wind.” When they rebooted it for the special, Ben still just didn’t get it, while everyone else was happy to sing along, “Bye bye Li’l Sebastian/ Missed you in the saddest fashion.” Keep eating heaven’s hay you beautiful, beautiful tiny horse.
The special one-night event was a benefit for Feeding America.
