Normani Kordei and her Dancing With the Stars partner Val Chmerkovskiy brought some modern appeal to the classic Viennese waltz on Monday (May 15) night’s semifinals episode.
The two were challenged to perform the dance by judge Len Goodman, a professional ballroom dance judge known for his strict rulings. “Whatever Len wants, Len gets,” the Fifth Harmony singer and her partner said in the intro video, before rising to the occasion, performing with a Sin City theme to Rihanna‘s “Desperado.”
With only a few minor criticisms, the judges panel applauded the duo’s proper ballroom hold and natural and reverse turns before awarding nines across the board due to a stumble during the routine. This followed nearly straight 10s in both dances last week.
Afterwards, Kordei said this was the hardest dance she’s done to date.
