Disney unveiled the first look at its upcomg live-action remake of Mulan on Thursday (Dec. 5).
The new trailer for the film reintroduces viewers to the story of Hua Mulan, a young Chinese girl (played by newcomer Yifei Liu) who masquerades as a man in order to take her sick father’s place in the Imperial Army.
While the live adaptation of the Disney classic won’t be a musical like the rest of the studio’s recent spate of remakes (sorry, “A Girl Worth Fighting For”), the teaser does manage to incorporate the original film’s theme song, “Reflection,” into the mix.
“Loyal, brave and true. It is my duty to protect my family,” Liu’s titular heroine declares, as an orchestral version of the 1997 hit made famous by Christina Aguilera swells in the background. “I’m Hua Mulan. I will bring honor to us all.”
Mulan is set to hit theaters nationwide on March 25, 2020.
