Maya Rudolph is here to re-claim her Saturday Night Live crown in the hilarious promo clip for her hosting turn on this weekend’s show.
The Emmy-winning multi-talented singer/actress and comedian — who starred on the show from 2o00 until 2009 — is in peak form in the preview of her guest hosting gig tomorrow night (March 27).
In the new promo, Rudolph appears alongside rapper Jack Harlow and castmember Chris Redd.
“I’m excited for you to host because today’s my birthday!” says a masked Redd, who gets a b-day shout-out from “What’s Poppin’ MC Harlow. “Now Chris, I know it’s your birthday, but I’m the host,” Rudolph explains to him.
“So, it’s your birthday?” a confused Redd asks. “Yeah, it is, happy birthday to me!” Rudolph gleams; for the record, her birthday is July 27.
In the second promo, the host waxes poetic about the arrival of spring after Redd innocently asks if she’s ready for the change of season. “Spring? Am I ready for spring, Chris?” she responds before breaking into a Shakespeare-like soliloquy about the beauty of rebirth and rejuvenation.
“Spring! The symbolic representation of birth, new life, new beginnings,” she bellows as strings swell behind her. “Spring! The ushering in of a new dawn after the long, cruel night of winter. “Spring! A blossoming of new beauty! New promise, new hope! Ask me again, Chris, am I ready for spring!”
