Baby, this is what you came for. A whopping 18 disguised celebrities from far and wide entered Season 3 of The Masked Singer back in February, but tonight only Frog, Turtle and Night Angel are left standing.
Their goal: To be proclaimed the winner and snag the Golden Mask trophy. Golly! As always, guiding us through the shenanigans are host Nick Cannon and panelists Robin Thick, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger. In the end, do any of them know what the hell they’re talking about? Let’s find out.
Frog

Hip-hopping Frog continues to clue us in that he has a “little tadpole” at home. “She’s counting on me,” he says, before whipping the audience into a frenzy with P. Diddy, Black Rob and Mark Curry’s “Bad Boy For Life.” Despite the added clue that he’s “never done choreography” in his life until coming to The Masked Singer, Frog knows how to put his webbed feet into action.
Less skilled are panelists Jenny, Ken and Nicole, whose respective guesses are Lil’ Romeo, Kid Cudi and, ridiculously, MC Hammer.
Turtle

Poor Turtle laments in his clues package that he’s had “a lot of ‘almost’ moments” in his career. Despite this, he’s embracing the next phase of his life, which he says he’s entered with his “Mrs. Turtle.” The shelled crooner brilliantly tackles Lewis Capaldi’s “Before You Go” with a full band backing him up. Who knew such feels could be conjured during this silliness?
Nicole deduces that Turtle is “Leavin’” pop star of yore Jesse McCartney based on early-season clue that the two of them spent a morning together. Ken thinks the green crooner is Nick Jonas, while Jenny is stunned to find she agrees with Ken. “Wait — am I sick?” she blurts out.
Night Angel

If The Masked Singer has taught us anything in three seasons, it’s that the famous contestants are prone to low self-esteem from time to time, just like all of us. Night Angel admits she “was terrified of failure” when she first got to the show, but the experience has allowed her to “channel fear into confidence.” She also clues us in that she didn’t find success as a solo artist, but that led her to launch her own business.
After Night Angel nails Tina Turner classic “River Deep — Mountain High” on stage, both Jenny and Robin are convinced she’s “No Scrubs” songwriter, Real Housewives Of Atlanta star and onetime Xscape member Kandi Burruss. Nicole disagrees and thinks the costumed songbird is Taraji P. Henson.
The results: After the audiences and panel votes, Frog comes in third place. Surprise! It’s rapper/actor/former 106 & Park host Bow Wow, as Robin had guessed in episodes past. Meanwhile, Turtle turns out to be the runner-up. Nicole is owed a gold star when, sure enough, Jesse McCartney’s head pops out from under the mask.
That means the Season 3 winner is Night Angel. Both Jenny and Robin nailed it earlier with Kandi Burrus, who is now the first woman to seal the deal on this show. Take the triumphs where you can find them, folks!
“For a long time, I really stopped singing by myself, you know?” Kandi tells Nick. “‘Cause, you know, you get negative feedback and it kind of messes with your head… I just really appreciate you guys for helping me build my confidence back up.”
And with that, Season 3 is in the can. But fret not, because — pandemic be darned — Nick says The Masked Singer will be back in action this coming fall.
Until then, stay safe by donning your own mask, kiddos.
