Jorma Taccone has revealed his plans to make a big-screen parody of the Fyre Festival.
Taccone is working on the Fyre Festival film with Seth Rogen and his fellow Lonely Island members Akiza Schaffer and Andy Samberg. The movie will be a spoof similar to the 2016 music mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.
“I don’t want to divulge all the details but we’re figuring it out right now,” Taccone told Daily Beast on Friday (Feb. 8). “You’ve seen the docs, right? It’s crazy. This is something that Akiva and Seth cooked up, and we’re figuring it all out right now.”
Taccone was particularly inspired by Andy King, the Fyre Festival’s creative director, who spawned a million memes after admitting in the Netflix documentary that he almost performed sexual favors to Bahamian officials in order to get a bottled water shipment through customs.
“I was like, I would hire that dude for anything… Hire that dude!” Taccone. “That guy is a champion.”
Taccone also revealed he had just come from L.A., where he was pitching a new TV series to streaming networks based on his film MacGruber. The 2010 “MacGyver” parody starring Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Val Kilmer, Ryan Phillippe and Maya Rudolph was a box office disappointment, but the Lonely Island member said the entire cast is on board to return for a series.
“What’s nice is that, when you make something that had the heartbreak of not doing so well financially…I would feel terrible if the people involved were embarrassed about it, but Ryan loves that shit, Kristen loves that shit, all the people involved are so psyched,” he said.
