Lena Dunham has never been one to shy away from speaking her mind, and when it came to talking about longtime friend Taylor Swift, the Girls star was an open book during Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Wednesday (Oct. 10).
The actress was first asked by a caller about Swift’s decision to break her political silence and take a stance on social media by endorsing two Democrat candidates in Tennessee, which reportedly motivated thousands of her followers to register to vote. Dunham, a notorious political activist, only had good things to say about the “Bad Blood” singer’s move.
“That was really amazing,” Dunham said. “I’m always proud of Taylor. Not only is she an amazing friend to me on a personal level, but she’s an amazing friend to lots of people in the world.” She added, “I never judged her for considering that a private domain, but I think she chose a really, really powerful time to speak out and I’m so moved and honored to be her friend.”
Things heated up when Dunham played an always-revealing game of Plead the Fifth with host Andy Cohen. The question this time was “which one of Swift’s boyfriends was her least favorite.”
“I will point out of course that you’re seated next to the sister of one of Taylors Swift’s former boyfriends,” Cohen said of the night’s other special guest Maggie Gyllenhaal, the sister of Jake Gyllenhaal. “Choose your gentleman carefully,” he warned her.
Confident, Dunham replied, “I want to do right by her on this question. My least favorite was Calvin Harris because I felt that he was petty in the public, and who needs to do that?” The DJ famously went on a Twitter rant about Swift following their split in 2016.
