Katy Perry appears to take a scary spill during the second episode of season 18 of American Idol after a gas leak causes an evacuation of the building in Sun River, Oregon, where auditions were being held. The clip of Sunday night’s (Feb. 23) episode was premiered by People, and it shows the pop star and fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan smelling a strong odor of gas in the audition room.
“Do you guys smell gas? It’s pretty intense,” Perry says, leading Bryan to point out, “We’re gettin’ heavy propane” before the building’s fire alarms go off.
Eventually, the entire production is evacuated from the building, including one flustered contestant who asks, “Do I still audition?” as producers and camera crews flee the scene. After the fire department arrives, Perry — who was complaining of a “slight headache” due to the fumes warlier — blurts out, “I’m not feeling good,” before suddenly appearing to collapse to the ground. A spokesperson for Idol could not be reached for further comment at press time about whether Perry, or anyone else on the set, was injured or treated by paramedics.
During the same episode, the pop star takes one teen contestant to the streets of Savannah to decide whether she’ll get a golden ticket to Hollywood following a pitchy yet charismatic rendition of Duffy‘s 2008 single “Mercy.”
