Julia Garner comes from a talented family. In fact, one of the Ozark star’s favorite childhood memories is of her mother, former Israeli sketch show star Tami Gingold, messing with telemarketers by pretending to be a crazed Russian babysitter and getting her kids in on the action.
Dropping into a perfect Russian accent, Garner reminisced about her mom’s hilarious flights of fancy on Monday night’s (Aug. 10) Tonight Show.
“Parents all day work, work, they go out dinner with friend and kids all they want is McNuggets and pizza!” she said, as host Jimmy Fallon giggled in glee at her faux-Russian accent.
Though it was Garner’s first official trip to the (virtual) Tonight Show couch, she recalled that her first date with now-husband Mark Foster, singer of Foster the People, was during his band’s appearance on the show two years ago.
Impressed with Garner’s voice work, Fallon asked if she did any other impressions, at which point she busted out a world-class Britney Spears take that you have to hear to believe. “That’s it!” Fallon gushed. “Oh my gosh, you’ve got the croak [at the] beginning.”
In the same family was Garner’s Gwen Stefani, which, again, was dead-on, complete with breathy character work so deep Fallon said he felt like Stefani was right there.
Garner also, of course, talked about her Emmy-winning role as duplicitous crime boss in training Ruth Langmore on Netflix’s Ozark.
