At the end of American Idol‘s run at Fox, Harry Connick Jr. was a show regular with three seasons running as a judge and more appearances as a mentor before that. So, could he return to the show now that it’s headed for ABC in 2018?
The question was posed to Connick Jr. at HBO’s Wizard of Lies premiere and from the sound of his response, it doesn’t sound like the option is off the table.
“I love American Idol,” he told E! News. “I had a great time doing it. I think it’s going to be great. I’m not sure how they’re going to revamp or relaunch it, but whatever I do I’m sure it’ll be great.”
Since American Idol wrapped in April 2016, Connick Jr. has been busy hosting his own hourlong weekday talk show, Harry, which he says has him plenty busy — not that it necessarily disqualifies him from returning to Idol.
“I don’t know, I haven’t been asked and I haven’t thought about it,” he continued. “I’ve been so busy with my show… We’ll see what happens in the future.”
