After a long year-and-a-half of waiting patiently, fans can now count down the days until the final season of Game of Thrones is finally out.
On Tuesday (March 5), HBO released the highly anticipated trailer for the fantasy drama’s eighth and final season with its typically epic cinematic effects that resemble those of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter — only with more dragons, of course.
Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Cersei Lannister (Lena Heady), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) and many more appear in the two-minute-long trailer.
The clip opens with fierce teenage warrior Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) describing her close acquaintance with Death while running through dark castle corridors. “He’s got many faces,” she says impassively of the grim reaper while wielding a knife. “I look forward to seeing this one.” The teaser hints at a homecoming for the living Stark siblings and the epic, final battle for the Iron Throne that will clearly have to be pried from the Lannisters, with Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) warning, “I promised to fight for the living. I intend to keep that promise.”
The final season of GoT will begin airing on HBO on Apr. 14.
