Director Patty Jenkins is off and running with the sequel to her superheroine smash Wonder Woman, and Gal Gadot is thrilled to be squaring off against her newly appointed nemesis, Kristen Wiig.
With a tweet on March 9, Jenkins announced the news and shared that she “can’t wait to finally work with one of [her] favorites.” Gadot immediately followed it up with a quick congratulations of her own.
I’m SO excited welcome on board Kristen! This is going to be WONDERful! https://t.co/FqQ191m1s0
Wiig will be playing the role of Cheetah, a/k/a Barbara Ann Minerva, an archaeologist who takes a bloodthirsty human-cheetah form thanks to an alliance with an ancient plant god, Urzkartaga. When she isn’t flashing fangs, Minerva is chasing down rare antiquities — a day job in line with Diana Prince’s, as she’s working at the Louvre in the Department of Antiquities in the first scenes of Wonder Woman.
The sequel to the 2017 hit will reportedly be set in the midst of the Cold War in the 1980s.
