Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will become the latest recipient of the “Generation” award at this year’s’ 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.
Joining the ranks of such past recipients as Will Smith, Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise and the Fast & Furious franchise, Johnson will receive the award at Monday night’s (June 17) show hosted by Shazam! star Zachary Levi.
“Johnson is an icon on both film and TV who has become one of the most beloved actors of our generation,” said Amy Doyle, general manager, MTV, VH1, CMT and Logo in a statement. “Throughout his career, Johnson has proven to be the ultimate badass — an action star with a flair for comedy, one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time and a true family man. He continues to captivate his audience worldwide and we are thrilled to celebrate him with the Generation Award.”
The star of the upcoming Fast spin-off Hobbs and Shaw will take home the award that “celebrates beloved actors whose diverse contributions to both film and television have turned them into household names.” Among the presenters at this year’s show are Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, Elisabeth Moss, Aubrey Plaza, Daniel Levy, Dave Bautista, David Spade, Jameela Jamil, Kiernan Shipka, Kumail Nanjiani, Maude Apatow, Mj Rodriguez, Shameik More and Storm Reid.
Lizzo will make her major televised performance debut at the show, while Bazzi will also perform.
The show will air at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
