Just in time for Mother’s Day, VH1 announced Wednesday (May 10) that 1.7 million total viewers tuned in to catch A-listers celebrating their moms on Dear Mama: An Event to Honor Moms — up 36 percent from last year. The show is executive produced by Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit and Jesse Collins Entertainment. It also scored on the social front ranking in the top five most social shows of the day in all of television.
Hosted by Anthony Anderson and La La Anthony, Dear Mama recognizes mothers with celebrity guests paying tribute to the women who have shaped their success. Celebrity participants included Mary J. Blige, Gladys Knight, DJ Khaled, Empire star Taraji P. Henson, Pitbull, Ludacris, Maxwell, Kelly Rowland, Halle Berry and Robin Thicke.
“Bless up, bless up, everybody! And Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in the building and all the mothers watching, and I wanna shout out my mother. Mom, I love you. I know you’re watching, and I know you proud of me,” said Khaled, whose new track “I’m the One” just debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. He also addressed his wife, Nicole Tuck: “Right now, I want to praise and honor my queen. You and God gave me my biggest blessing, and that’s my son Asahd. I love you.”
“A lot of people would say I beat the odds, but I believe my success is due to the fact the first and most influential woman in my life would not let me believe in the odds,” Ludacris said during his tribute to his mother.
