Ben Platt stepped back into the role of Evan Hansen on Monday (March 30) by performing “You Will Be Found” with the cast of Dear Evan Hansen for HomeFest: A Late Late Show Special.
Before introducing the number, host James Corden took a moment to share a heartfelt message with his audience about the fear and uncertainty surrounding the growing, worldwide coronavirus crisis.
“Right now, it’s all right to feel a bit sad; it’s OK to feel anxious,” he said. “And the best thing we can all do is kind of try and breathe through that, and try and put our minds in a positive place and think, ‘What can I do to help someone else who might be feeling like this?’…Reaching out to somebody else who you think might be struggling too is pretty much the best thing we can all do right now. Because we absolutely will get through this.”
To close out the special, Platt teamed up with members of both the Broadway and touring casts of the hit musical — including current Evan Hansen Jordan Fisher — for a powerful rendition of the show’s Act 1 finale. “Even when the dark comes crashing through/ When you need a friend to carry you/ And when you’re broken on the ground/ You will be found/ So let the sun come streamin’ in/ ‘Cause you’ll reach up and you’ll rise again/ Lift your head and look around/ You will be found,” the star sang before being joined by a chorus of voices from around the country to spread the song’s hopeful message.
In 2016, Platt originated the titular role in the hit Broadway show, winning a Tony Award for his performance before transitioning into the realms of music (with his 2019 debut solo album Sing to Me Instead) and TV (Netflix’s The Politician). Corden’s #HomeFest also included performances by the likes of Dua Lipa, BTS, Billie Eilish and more.
