As ABC begins staffing up its American Idol reboot, the network has reportedly tapped former contestant Chris Daughtry as a judge.
Citing an unnamed source, Us Weekly reports that the 37-year-old rocker who famously came in fourth place during the fifth season of the original Idol — and went on to success as a hard rock band leader and one of the most successful Idol alums in history — is joining a fresh-look judging panel that may also include other ex-contestants.
A spokesperson at ABC declined to comment on the report at press time. The network is rebooting the show less than a year after it went off the air, and excitement is revving up to see who the judges will be. As of now the only other name on the list is Katy Perry, who is also reportedly to be in talks to join the panel when the show returns in early 2018.
Rival show The Voice has landed two of Idol‘s most-celebrated alums, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson, who will be joining the NBC hit reality competition over the next two seasons. A spokesperson for Daughtry could not be reached for comment at press time.
