Bo Burnham is staying busy. Following his critically acclaimed directorial debut with the coming-of-age comedy film Eighth Grade, the comedian/musician will contribute songs for the upcoming Sesame Street film, it was announced Tuesday (June 11).
The movie follows Big Bird and the rest of the Sesame Street gang after they are expelled from their neighborhood and set out to prove that Sesame Street actually exists. The Warner Bros. film will star Anne Hathaway and be directed by Portlandia co-creator Jonathan Krisel.
The project won’t be Burnham’s first venture into songwriting. The comedian first gained an audience by releasing musical comedy videos on YouTube, writing original songs that touched on topics like white supremacy and religion. Shortly after, Burnham launched his stand-up career, where he often fused his original music into his routines.
The live-action Sesame Street film is slated to hit theaters Jan. 15, 2021.
