Ellen DeGeneres comes more than prepared to scare her celebrity guests on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Halsey was her latest victim.
Just in time for Halloween, the two sat down Wednesday (Oct. 30) to talk about her double-duty Halloween costumes of Marilyn Manson and Cher, with newly confirmed boyfriend Evan Peters as her Sonny. But DeGeneres packed her self-claimed “one-two punch” by making the “Graveyard” singer talk about her boyfriend while getting scared by a crew member wearing a Cher wig.
The daytime talk show host’s harmless pranks have lasted for years, but the tricks she had up her sleeve in 2019 were priceless. On April Fool’s Day (April 1), DeGeneres chatted with Billie Eilish about her favorite pop star Justin Bieber. Despite looking around the set to see if he would pop up, the “bad guy” singer didn’t have a clue his look-alike would pop up from the infamous scare box.
The following month, Blake Shelton fell victim to another one of Ellen’s scares — only this time, Modern Family star Julie Bowen was inside the box. Right as the talk show host got really serious and asked the country singer if he would marry his girlfriend and fellow The Voice coach Gwen Stefani, Bowen spooked him. “When can we talk about the fact that I just crapped my pants?” he asked nonchalantly.
It’s not surprising that some artists like Lil Nas X want to feel like they can beat DeGeneres at her own game, especially when he directly asked her “Nobody’s in this box, no?” when he dropped by the show in September. But that didn’t stop a Billy Ray Cyrus impersonator from getting the best of the “Old Town Road” artist.
She also beat Nick Jonas to the punch when she played a video of The Voice coaches congratulating him on joining them on the show while the Jonas Brothers visited Ellen earlier this month. As John Legend suggested Jonas team up with him and Kelly Clarkson to take down Shelton, an impersonator of the “God’s Country” artist made sure Shelton got the last laugh in spirit.
