As exhibited by her bubbly demeanor on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday (March 15), season 22 Bachelor winner Becca Kufrin — who will hopefully be treated better as the next star of the Bachelorette — is doing pretty okay for someone who got her heart broken on national television.
Although Bachelor franchise host Chris Harrison seems to deem each season of the dating reality show “the most dramatic ever,” Kufrin’s finale experience gave the rest a run for their money: Dutch-American auto racing driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. collectively pissed off America by proposing to her, only to realize soon after he really wanted to give his final rose to runner-up Lauren Burnham. Kufrin spoke with DeGeneres about her experience getting so harshly dumped (“It’s like a soap opera,” she joked) and the positive outlook she has moving forward.
“I feel good. I went through the enitre grieving process — I was mad, I was sad, I was confused. But now, I watched the entire season back and saw his relationships unfolding with everyone else, and seeing that kind of helped move on,” she said, revealing that she ultimately realized, “he just found a better fit with Lauren.”
As expected, Luyendyk got plenty of backlash for his painfully indecisive ways, so much so that residents in Kufrin’s home state of Minnesota want to ban him from ever visiting. Kufrin told DeGeneres she hasn’t heard from Luyendyk since the brutally public breakup (during which she yelled “get out” and “leave” more times than we can count), but she doesn’t expect him to ever reach out again. “Just out of respect for Lauren and that relationship, I don’t think he will.”
So, what is the newest Bachelorette looking for in her next fiance?
“Physical traits, I don’t really have a type. I’m all over the board,” Kufrin explained. “Personality-wise, I want someone who’s honest and loyal, obviously.”
Her demands aren’t high, but there’s one celebrity she’d love to see step out of the limo: Michael Strahan. “I just love the gap tooth,” she said. “I love everything about him.”
Naturally, Ellen couldn’t let the bachelorette leave without a survival kit to get her through the upcoming season. Kufrin was presented with a massive tote bag containing Five Hour Energy, a robe, a sleep mask, a copy of the talk show host’s book and of course, a framed photo of Strahan.
Season 14 of the Bachelorette premieres May 28 on ABC. Watch Kufrin’s interview on Ellen below.
