Powerhouse singer-songwriter Andra Day combined forces with rapper Common on Monday (Jan. 9) night’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform their song “Stand Up For Something” off of the previously released Marshall soundtrack.
Marshall, which hit theaters back in 2017, follows the story of Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, and is the perfect song for the film and any instance in life where one may find themselves standing up for a cause that they believe in.
With lyrics like “You can’t just talk the talk/ You got to walk that walk/ Yes you do,” and “It all means nothing/ If you don’t stand up for something,” it is no surprise to see why this wildly inspirational and Grammy-nominated song is still being performed past its initial release.
Day’s vocals were front and center during the powerful performance as were Common’s rapping skills, making this one killer set.
