As this season of American Idol races toward its finale, America will have a decision to make in the next episode: which of the remaining contestants do you want to see in the finale? Now, we know what the contestants will have to do to earn their spot.
On Sunday night’s (May 12) episode of American Idol, the top five — contestants Wade Cota, Madison VanDenburg, Laine Hardy, Laci Kaye Booth and Alejandro Aranda — will be tasked with performing three different songs. The first will be a song chosen by their in-house mentor Bobby Bones, while the second will be a song dedicated to their heroes in honor of Mother’s Day.
The final challenge will see the top five performing their favorites songs from pop icon Elton John’s stunning discography. In order to best prepare for the challenge, the contestants will also get to see an early release of Rocketman, the upcoming biopic detailing the early years of the pop singer’s career.
Last week, the contestants were tasked with performing songs from the classic Woodstock festival in honor of its 50th anniversary. Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon and Laci Kaye Booth wound up in the bottom, when the judges swooped in and used their save to push Booth through, thus eliminating Harmon.
