Billboard has an exclusive first look at the list of songs the American Idol top seven will sing on Sunday night’s (May 9) “Coldplay Songbook & Mother’s Day Dedication” episode. The live two-hour episode will find the semifinalists performing a song dedicated to their loved ones in honor of Mother’s Day, as well as a second tune from the Coldplay catalog.
The contestants — Chayce Beckham, Caleb Kennedy, Grace Kinstler, Casey Bishop, Willie Spence, Hunter Metts and last season’s returning aspirant Arthur Gunn — will be mentored by Coldplay singer Chris Martin, with the band’s leader also debuting the group’s new single, “Higher Power” in a worldwide exclusive first performance.
“Higher Power,” which will drop on Friday (May 7) is the first taste of Coldplay’s as-yet-unnamed ninth album, which the’ve been teasing via a worldwide viral campaign under the guise of AlienRadio.
American Idol will air live coast-to-coast from 8 to 11 p.m. ET on ABC, and voting will start at the beginning of the episode, with the top five finalists revealed at the end of the show. Check out the track list below.
