When pop singers Adam Joseph and Zach Adam got together to write a song about love as a force of nature, they weren’t expecting their collaboration to take on a new meaning. But while recording one particular song, the duo realized that they were getting at issues that were much deeper and more personal than they originally intended.
The product of their collaboration is “Gravity,” a synth-pop anthem focused around the power to overcome depression and suicide. Zach Adam says that he wants the song to serve as a conversation-starter for those struggling with their mental health. “We’re artists. We feel things deeply and have had to go through the motions,” he says in a statement. “I’m hoping this song and its music video spark a conversation about suicide and help to bring it out of the dark because change will only happen when the stigma loses its power.”
Adam Joseph adds that his own battle with addiction and depression informed his performance on the track. “It has taken me years to work through my serious battle with addiction and depression,” he says. “It is something I am still fighting today and will likely continue to do so for the rest of my life. It’s not a feeling one can ever completely get over and that is why songs like ‘Gravity’ are so important. They are tools of encouragement that help people like me by reminding us to keep moving forward.”
