YouTube announced Thursday (Sep. 13) that it will release State of Pride, a documentary that snapshots the meaning of Pride, to coincide with Pride Month 2019.
Directed by renowned LBGT documentarians Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, State of Pride will take a look into Pride’s significance — 50 years after the Stonewall Riots — through a series of interviews helmed by Catfish Trolls host and prominent LGBT activist Raymond Braun. Previously, Epstein and Friedman have directed the Emmy-winning documentary The Celluloid Closet and the Oscar-winning films Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt and The Times of Harvey Milk.
It is being filmed over the span of a few months, coinciding with Pride festivals nationwide, and is set for release in June 2019.
“State of Pride is set to amplify the voices of LGBTQ+ people and allies that audiences need to hear,” said Jeremy Blacklow, GLAAD’s Director of Entertainment Media. “Raymond’s unique ability to tell powerful, inclusive LGBTQ+ stories that enlighten and inspire, coupled with Rob and Jeff’s legacy of gifted storytelling, will no doubt lead to a film that showcases the true diversity of the LGBTQ community.”
