Breaking up is hard to do, and it seems that no one knows that better than pop upcomer VINCINT. While the rising star has made it a habit to write about relationships in his first few singles, his latest song cuts deeper than the others.
On Friday (April 5), VINCINT released his brand-new song and video for “Please Don’t Fall in Love,” a pounding pop production filled with heartache and brimming with desperation. Throughout the song, the star performs a tug-of-war with his own emotions as he clings to his lost relationship. “Take him to our spot/ Hold him like me in the dark/ Tell him that he’s all you want/ Just please don’t fall in love,” he wails.
The video for the track displays that same sense of emotional anguish. Directed by photographer Jasper Soloff, the video shows VINCINT standing alone in a black void, as he moves from calm to frantic just at the idea of being left there by himself. With his final “please,” the lights dim and the star disappears into the dark.
The star also took to Twitter just before the song’s release, revealing that the track was his lead single off of his upcoming debut EP. “I wrote it from a special place and time in my heart and I’m excited for it to now have a home with all of you,” he wrote. “I love you all so much!”
Speaking to Billboard shortly after appearing on Fox’s The Four, VINCINT said that he felt it was important for pop music to not only have catchy licks, but impressive vocals and raw emotion. “I wanna bring back the vocals of pop,” he said. “I want to bring back real singing and heart and, like, movement and soul, as opposed to, like … hooky things.”
