Legend has it if you say the name “Miss Vanjie” three times, RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Vanessa Vanjie Mateo will magically appear. Don’t believe us? Just ask the queen of mean herself, Bianca Del Rio.
While speaking on a panel at the Los Angeles premiere of her new film Hurricane Bianca: From Russia With Hate, Del Rio mentioned the viral drag star by repeating her catchphrase. Suddenly, from the back of the crowd, Miss Vanjie’s voice came through as she shouted, “I heard my name!”
Mateo hopped onto the stage, repeating her now-iconic catchphrase repeatedly, adding in, “Tag teaming with Miss Shangie,” gesturing to All Stars 3 competitor Shangela, who was seated on the stage with Del Rio. “You said my name three times,” she told Del Rio. “Well, hocus pocus, bitch, I’m here.”
The star took a seat on the stage in front of season 7 queen Mrs. Kasha Davis, who asked Miss Vanjie if she would be available to act if Bianca decided to do a third Hurricane Bianca film. “Bitch, I’ll make sure I’m available,” she said to a cheer from the audience. “Bitch, I’m the first one out, I’ll take any fucking thing!”
Del Rio herself commented on the “Miss Vanjie” phenomenon in an interview with Billboard last week. The star said that she doesn’t even need to watch Drag Race anymore: all she has to do now is say the catchphrase. “Someone asked me recently ‘What happens when you say Miss Vanjie three times?’” she said. “And I said, ‘You get eliminated!’”
Hurricane Bianca: From Russia With Hate will be available on iTunes starting May 18. Watch Vanessa Vanjie Mateo’s full interruption below:
