In a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, the “Angel Baby” singer shared that it felt strange for him to be jumping back into public life after a year and a half of quarantine. “I was in lockdown in Australia, like, three days ago, so to go from 0 to 100 like this is the coolest thing ever,” Sivan said. “I got an email that apparently Rihanna wanted me to be in the show. It was insane. I love her, I think everyone knows that.”
The star continued, saying that being asked to model for the show meant a lot more to him than just having an idol of his recognize him in public. “As someone who struggled with my sexuality when I was younger and body image later in life, it’s so, so important,” he said. “It’s cool to get everyone together and feel really hot and feel really cool. Just to celebrate that humanity is really nice.”
Sivan certainly got to show off his body during the exclusive event, which is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. The star appeared on stage in the last half of the 40 minute special, dressed only in a pair of sparkling silver Savage x Fenty boxers, strutting his stuff to Remy Ma’s “Conceited.”
The singer said that he felt as though the show could’ve gone one of two ways for him: “It can make you panic and feel super vulnerable, or you can take power from that and feel really empowered,” he said. Luckily, the latter sentiment prevailed, as Sivan said he felt the empowerment he knew he needed. “When I’m filming a music video, that’s when I feel most powerful. It’s just a fantasy to me still, that any of this is happening.”
The third installment of Rihanna’s critically acclaimed fashion show boasted a number of other stars, including Rihanna herself, Ricky Martin, Normani, Gigi Hadid, Erykah Badu, Adriana Lima, Vanessa Hudgens and many more.
