It’s been seven months since drag stars Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova last appeared on television together. Katya took a drag hiatus at the beginning of the year to attend rehab, and Trixie continued to work on their talk show The Trixie & Katya Show with guest host Bob the Drag Queen.
But there was no need for a substitute on Saturday (Sept. 29) at RuPaul’s DragCon NYC. The queens finally reunited for a panel before 500 screaming fans and thousands more waiting outside.
The two discussed just about everything, from erotic fan fiction to their love of corn. They even made a major announcement about their YouTube series UNHhhh. In honor of these titans of drag reuniting for their audience, here are 5 things we learned during Trixie & Katya’s panel at RuPaul’s DragCon NYC.
1. UNHhhh is coming back for a new season in October!
Fans have been patiently waiting for any news surrounding the renewal of the duo’s Viceland show The Trixie & Katya Show. While they didn’t comment on the future of their Viceland program, they did blow their fans away with some other news. “This is a surprise thing that you guys are seeing for the first time, and we hope it gets you very excited,” Trixie said. Sure enough, they showed a trailer for a brand new season of their YouTube series UNHhhh, which inspired Trixie & Katya. The show will be returning on Oct. 17 to WOWPresentsPlus. The episodes, they said, would be out first on the streaming service, uncensored, before being posted to YouTube. “I think you can see from our very compelling footage, we have completely remade, shot-for-shot, Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” Katya added with a grin.
2. Suicide and dentistry are a couple of the potential topics for their new series.
After revealing their return to UNHhhh, the queens each took turns revealing what topics they’d most like to discuss on their new season. Katya, naturally, said that suicide was her number one pick. “I think, wouldn’t you love to hear us rattle off a list of the most popular methods of suicide?” she asked, before adding that she was not condoning the act. Trixie, for her part, said that she would love to do a more mundane episode about dentistry, where the queens could talk about their differences in dental hygiene. “But it’s hard, because we’ve had 60 episodes on YouTube and then the TV show had 12,” Trixie said. “We’ve talked about so many things that it’s starting to get sad.”
3. They want to see Tammie Brown and Jasmine Masters in the judges’ panel.
When a fan in the crowd asked which queens the duo wanted to see behind the [Drag Race] judges’ panel one day, Trixie said that she would want to come back to assist with an improv challenge with Katya. But Katya immediately said that if it came down to it, she would want to see Tammie Brown and Jasmine Masters on the panel, judging everyone. “And all [Jasmine] would say, whenever they were up there, is ‘Just as I thought: trash.’”
4. Trixie believes her name was on BeBe Zahara Benet’s unrevealed lipstick.
An eager fan asked the duo to guess who they thought Bebe Zahara Benet had chosen in an infamous moment from season 3 of All Stars. Trixie cackled with laughter, immediately incriminating herself. “It was 100 percent me,” she said, adding that because she had been the least involved of their group she knew it had to be her name. She also said that she could understand why Bebe didn’t reveal the name. “I don’t think she showed it because she didn’t want you guys to get mad at her,” she said. “She fears the wrath of teenage girls, as well she should!”
5. Trixie and Katya will never do Drag Race again.
While they both had fun being on Drag Race twice (“Plus I won!” said Trixie), neither Trixie nor Katya has any interest in returning to the competition. Trixie was especially uninterested in the idea of an all-winners season. “No! You take the money and run,” she exclaimed. “I don’t think I’m lucky like that… you grab it, you hold onto it and you did it!” Katya nodded in agreement, simply adding that “I would never do it again. Never ever, bitch.”
