With Halloween just around the corner, drag queens everywhere are gearing up for a lot of makeovers just in time for the holiday. Luckily, Trixie Mattel‘s newest client also happens to be a star in her own right.
On Monday (Oct. 19), Mattel posted a new makeover video to her YouTube channel with Iggy Azalea. The All Stars 3 winner set out to transform the “Fancy” rapper into a Trixie clone by instructing her on how to accomplish her makeup look, per Azalea’s request. “I was dead set that I needed to be you,” Azalea said in the clip. “Because I always say that I’m your daughter, even though you won’t sign the adoption papers.”
As Mattel applied her signature look to Azalea’s face, the pair chatted about some of their favorite pop culture, including the Spice Girls, with Iggy revealing that she had to be both Scary and Posh Spice. “I made my grandma buy yards of leopard-skin velvet to make me Scary Spice dresses, and I wore them to school, everywhere,” she said. “But I love Posh Spice, too, just for the attitude.”
It’s not the first time the pair have teamed up: For her “Started” music video, Azalea recruited Trixie to play her co-host on a late-night infomercial about murdering your sugar daddy with baked goods. “If your name’s in his will, and you want your bread/ Call 1-833-DADDYS-DEAD” the two sang in their hilarious parody.
The two talked about their experience working together, with Trixie complimenting Iggy for the way she treated her on set for her video. “She’s one of the only artists I’ve worked with where, when I walked on set, I was in drag, and you basically went, ‘There’s a drag queen on set, she’s in pain. We’re gonna get her shot so she can leave,'” Trixie said with a laugh. “A woman in a wig can say that.”
At the end of the video, the two looked practically identical, as Azalea commented on one specific aspect of the look that she was struggling with. “The eyelash thing was the weirdest part,” she said, lifting the stacked fake lashes away from her eyes. “It’s really in my peripheral.”
