When Todrick Hall and Ciara performed a new version of the former’s song “Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels” during the WorldPride opening ceremony in New York City, fans immediately started wondering whether or not the two would drop an official version of the song. Today, they get their answer.
Today (Aug. 19), Hall is unveiling a new remix of his song featuring Ciara, premiering below. The remix shows Ciara interjecting throughout the original, while also dropping her own rapid-fire verse about how truly enviable her life is. “I pop like a bottle/ And I walk like a model/ Every time that I post/ Another million dollars,” she spits.
In an exclusive statement to Billboard, Hall says that working with Ciara was a dream come true. “To collaborate with an icon and queer ally like Ciara is simply a dream come true,” he says. “NHHH has become an anthem for the gay community and now the song will have an even broader appeal, because no matter the race, gender or sexual orientation, everyone deserves to have a song make them feel fabulous!”
Ciara agrees, adding that she has always admired the hard work Hall puts into his craft. “Todrick is such a visionary, I have been a fan of his work for some time now. It’s exciting to see what he’s going to create every time he drops something,” she says. “He reached out to me a while ago to join him on one of his songs, and this was the track that I loved … This is such a fun song that anyone can dance to, especially in the club! I’m so excited that it is finally out!”
The original track, released just ahead of Pride month this year, became a sensation in the LGBTQ community thanks in no small part to the dance-infused music video, which has accrued over 14 million views. In an interview with Billboard ahead of the song’s release, Hall said that he wanted the song to turn into exactly that: “If it does what I hope it does, it will become like an LGBTQ+ phenomenon. That’s what I’m hoping for,” he said.
