The Vixen caught up with Billboard Pride during RuPaul’s DragCon 2018 on Friday (Sep. 28), chatting about her Grindr anti-discrimination initiative, collaborating with Shea Couleé and more.
Speaking of her partnership with the Grindr Kindr campaign, The Vixen explains that the goal is to speak out against discrimination among the dating app’s users. “It’s really just people sharing their experiences,” she tells Billboard Pride editor Patrick Crowley.
Speaking of having personally been discriminated against on the app, the drag queen shares, “When you see those things online and people just putting a sign up saying, like, ‘No black boys,’ ‘No drag queens’…it’s a personal attack and it chips away at you every time you see it, and so I think I’m putting a face to the victims of that is really cool and important.”
The Vixen also talks about working with Shea Couleé on “Room Pt. 2,” noting that the two performed it together the night before and it was “amazing.”
“Everybody went nuts,” she states. “Shea came up and she started doing ‘Cocky’ and then I snuck up and did my verse and then we dropped right into ‘Room’ and everybody went wild.”
In the interview, The Vixen is also asked who the craziest queen is to tour with, and she names Vanessa Vanjie Mateo. “There’s videos of her twerking on the bunk beds,” she says with a laugh. “You know when you wake up, if she’s up, because you’ll hear her. She’s like having a rooster on the bus.”
