Since its emergence in 2017, TikTok has grown to become one of the most popular social media apps of 2019. While the platform has already become a meme-generating platform where small artists can suddenly rocket to superstardom, it appears that pop star Sam Smith has only just come around to it.
On Friday (Dec. 6), Smith alerted their Twitter followers by saying that they had finally started making videos on the app, and that fans should start following “if you wanna see me alone in my hotel room with a stuffed cat singing diva ballads.” Turns out that wasn’t just a turn of phrase — the star posted a video, captioned “Oh no kids, I’ve just discovered TikTok,” in streaked mascara clutching a plushie doll, lip syncing to Celine Dion‘s cover of “All By Myself.”
But the fun didn’t stop there — throughout the day Friday, Smith continued posting videos where they kept the party going. In one, a robed Smith can be seen doing a full on riverdance to a song from The Celtic Orchestra. Later, they posted a video while on a hike, “mincing” along to the very appropriate “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye.
It all culminated in one video, though, simply captioned “Golden shower,” showing Smith at the end of their hike, sitting on the ground. As the chorus of Lizzo‘s “Water Me” kicked up, a stream of water suddenly drenched Smith as they tried to keep the lip sync going.
