Ryan Murphy is easily one of the most prolific television producers of this decade. With a number of hit television shows — including Glee, American Horror Story and American Crime Story — in the books, he’s now preparing for the release of his new FX series Pose, which focuses on ball culture in 1980s New York.
The producer announced via Twitter that any and all of the profits he makes from Pose will be donated to trans and LGBTQ charities. “These groups do amazing work and need our support,” he said, adding that every day for the next 14 days, he will highlight a charity he’ll be supporting.
I am donating 100 percent of my profits from my new FX show POSE towards trans and LGBTQ charitable organizations. These groups do amazing work and need our support. Every day for the next 14 days I will highlight a group I’m supporting, and encourage you to do the same!

Murphy also announced the first charity he will donate his Pose profits to: The Sylvia Rivera Law Project. Named after LGBTQ rights activist and Gay Liberation Front founder Sylvia Rivera, the organization is focused on protecting individuals’ rights to “self-determine their gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination, or violence,” according to their website.
Before Murphy announced his charitable intentions, Pose had already made history: The show, which tells the stories of trans individuals and drag performers in the 1980s ballroom scene, boasts the largest-ever cast of transgender actors on a television show, with five transgender actors joining the show’s series regular cast.
