On Thursday night, RuPaul’s Drag Race came to a stunning conclusion as A’Keria C. Davenport, Silky Nutmeg Ganache, Brooke Lynn Hytes and Yvie Oddly fought it out for the crown in a lip sync battle royale. But in the end, only one queen could emerge victorious, and that queen was Yvie Oddly.
Headed into the finale, the odds were not necessarily in Yvie’s favor — while the star had proven herself a worthy competitor and an expert lip sync artist, Yvie had the fewest wins of the queens in the finale, with only one main challenge win under her belt.
Yvie wasn’t the only queen who walked away victorious on Thursday. Nina West, who RuPaul has dubbed “the pride of season 11” received season 11’s Miss Congeniality award, which entails a $10,000 cash prize. After being rewarded for her kind disposition, Nina remarked “Kindness is king and love leads the way, and I cannot thank you guys enough for this.”
In her first lip sync of the night, Yvie faced off against fellow competitor A’Keria C. Davenport in a lip sync to Rihanna’s “SOS,” where the star offered up her signature contortionist tricks, along with a somewhat hidden message under her dress that read “Free Britney.”
Beating out A’Keria, the star moved on to the final lip sync against Brooke Lynn Hytes, an unofficial rematch to their already-iconic lip sync from earlier this season. Brooke Lynn offered up her signature dance skills throughout the track, while Yvie offered up a more conceptual take on the song. Toward the finish of the number, the oddball spun around to reveal a second face on the back of her head before offering up one final backbend.
Upon being crowned by RuPaul as America’s Next Drag Superstar, Yvie gave a shout out to her fans, telling them to never let anyone tell them they were wrong for being different. “Follow your oddities, and fly your freak flag,” she exclaimed, before delivering one final cackle and prancing down the runway.
