RuPaul has a habit of sharing his musical loves — old and new — to his legions of adoring fans. Recently, the Drag Race host professed his love of Taylor Dayne‘s “Tell It To My Heart” by covering the ’80s classic on Instagram.
In an homage to Dayne posted on Monday (Aug. 13), Ru belts out the song’s unimpeachable chorus, swaying and grooving in a peak-lapel suit and loosely-buttoned white shirt. He twirls and lets out a small whoop in the thirty-second clip’s close.
“‘Tell it to my heart’ only told half the story,” he writes in a cryptic caption on Instagram. The video appears to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Dayne’s debut album, also titled Tell It To My Heart — which dropped in early 1988.
Ru’s adoration of Dayne is well-documented. Alyssa Edwards and Detox duked it out on Drag Race All-Stars season 2 in a lip sync challenge set to “Tell It To My Heart,” and Dayne herself has starred as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag U. Ru and Dayne hit the road for an episode of his YouTube series “RuPaul Drives.” He also cites Dayne as one of his musical influences in a 1993 Rolling Stone interview. “I wish I could sing like her,” he told the magazine.
