April 1st is a difficult day to announce any kind of real news. Writer and actress Ruby Rose learned this the hard way on Sunday when she revealed on her Twitter account that she and her longtime girlfriend, The Veronicas singer Jess Origliasso, had broken up.
“Break ups are always incredibly hard on the people involved,” Rose wrote. “But I can only be grateful for the experiences we shared. It’s with a heavy heart to share that Jess and I parted ways a few months ago.”

The actress added that the breakup was at least relatively amicable by saying that two “still love each other very much,” and that she “will always support [Origliasso] and be her biggest advocate.”

Fans were quick to call the tweet out as another April Fool’s Day prank, saying that Rose and Origliasso were trying to stir up a controversy that didn’t truly exist. But Rose returned to Twitter to confirm that it was no joke, simultaneously shaming those who claimed she was pulling their leg.
I understand it’s “April 1st” but I would never use something so personal as an April fools joke.

“I understand it’s ‘April 1st’ but I would never use something so personal as an April fools joke.” she wrote.
The two began officially dating back in 2016, after Rose wrote, directed and starred in the music video for The Veronicas’ song “On Your Side.”
Origliasso has yet to comment publicly on the breakup, although fans have speculated about the breakup for months. Last December, Origliasso unfollowed Rose across all social media, and deleted all of her Instagram photos with the actress.
