Synthpop upstart Robokid spent the better part of his career establishing himself as a talented DJ and producer. But now, the L.A.-based artist is stepping out of the shadows to establish himself as an up-and-coming voice in the music industry with his second EP, RK1 (March 8).
The new project features some of his most catchy songs yet, with tracks like “17” and “Fake Love” that will make you want to get out of your chair and dance. But other standout tracks, like “Dead2Me” and “Everything Around You,” lean into the artist’s more numbing, celestial sounds, making for his most diverse project yet.
In a statement, Robokid said that he wanted to create something that felt new, while incorporating some of his biggest musical influences. “I wanted to develop a sound that was influenced by all my favorite music I loved while growing up mixed with today’s production styles,” he said. “I feel that this mixtape is an exploration of the sonics of pop music from the late 80s and 90s, mixed with now, as well as laced with personal excerpts about the past and present.”
