In 2018, pop singer Rita Ora became a name to be remembered. Building on previous singles like “How We Do (Party)” and “For You,” Ora showed off her pop-star skills with the critically acclaimed debut album Phoenix, where the star showcased her serious singing ability.
Now, Ora is set to further exhibit her talent at this year’s VH1 Trailblazer Honors, where she’ll take the stage to perform her rousing personal anthem “Soul Survivor” during the one-hour special on March 8, International Women’s Day.
Ora’s “Soul Survivor” details the singer’s difficult relationship with her former label, Roc Nation. The singer filed a lawsuit against her label in 2015, seeking to be released from her contract under the state of California’s De Havilland Law, saying that after seven years with the label, she was only allowed to release one song. “It’s been seven long years fighting for your attention/ Manipulated by fear and misdirection,” she sings in the opening of the song.
Along with seeing a performance from Ora, the 2019 VH1 Trailblazer Honors will provide awards specifically honoring women who have made landmark achievements toward gender equality in the past few years. VH1 has announced that this year’s honorees will include Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and filmmaker Ava DuVernay.
Watch the 2019 VH1 Trailblazer Honors on Friday, March 8, at 9 p.m. ET on VH1 and Logo.
