Peppermint is one busy queen. As previously reported, the RuPaul’s Drag Race season 9 runner-up is hard at work filming a documentary about her life, titled Project Peppermint. The NYC nightlife legend also dropped her second album, Black Pepper.
“I’ve been writing the album since before filming Drag Race,” said Peppermint. “This is a darker follow-up to my first album, which was the bubbly side of Peppermint.”
She shared that her favorite song on the album is “Shady Phone.”
“It’s about that ‘friend’ who is all up in your face one moment — when they want to borrow money or when they want to tap that thang — and the next day you try to text them and they ghost on you. They just disappear and you’re like, “What’s wrong with you?” and they blame their phone,” she explained. “Well, you must got a shady phone.”
The queen also teased visuals to accompany the music: “This summer, there’s going to be a plethora of music videos. I’m not going to do a visual EP, but I’m going to do two or three videos. A half-Beyoncé.”
She also said that Project Peppermint will include behind-the-scenes footage from the music videos. You can support the film by donating here. Take a listen to Black Pepper, which includes a cover of Queen‘s “Don’t Stop Me Now” and guest appearances from Ari Gold, Devin Snow and Big Dipper, below.
