Brooklyn rapper Nitty Scott wants you to immerse yourself in her universe. Just be careful about the comedown.
The queer MC debuts the trippy, fantastical video for “Kaleidoscopes!” on Wednesday (Oct. 30), just in time for the Halloween spookies to emerge from under the woodwork.
What appears at first glance to be a menacing desert journey turns into a stoner Alice in Wonderland-meets Hype Williams romp of epic proportions, complete with a devil-horned hula hoop twirler, a whole lot of dizzying visual effects, and even more inventive costumes. It’s a fantasy world so addictive that it becomes damn-near impossible to want to leave.
“Off these drugs, all I see is kaleidoscopes,” she sings on the hook, shuffling between tongue-twisting flows verse by verse like she’s guest rapping on her own song.
It looks like a lot of fun on the surface, but for Scott, there’s more than just a surreal, drug-induced celebration.
“Kaleidoscopes” is a collaboration between myself and the amazing Marina Fini,” she writes to Billboard. “It’s a psychedelic journey of what it’s like to be in the duality of this reality, a dazed party scene that is also commentary on the ups and downs, highs and lows of going through an ascension, or spiritual awakening. The world we created is hella magical and queer AF!”
