Every party needs a host, and the GLAAD Media Awards just found theirs.
On Wednesday (March 3), GLAAD announced that actress Niecy Nash will host the online ceremony taking place for this year’s GLAAD Media Awards.
The event is set to take place on Thursday, April 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET on GLAAD’s YouTube channel. The awards will later be available to stream on Hulu, starting at 10:00 p.m. ET on April 8 and remaining available to stream on the platform until the end of June.
The news comes less than a year after the actress, known for her roles on shows like Reno 911 and Claws, came out to the public by posting photos of her wedding to singer-songwriter Jessica Betts back in August.
“I am so thrilled to be hosting this year’s GLAAD Media Awards, honoring the LGBTQ stories and images that change the world by growing acceptance and understanding,” Nash said in a statement. “My wife Jessica and I are still thriving in newlywed bliss, and I’m looking forward to bringing that love and joy to GLAAD’s biggest night. Be ready for a surprise or two!”
GLAAD also announced a new special recognition category for this year’s ceremony; the “TikTok Queer Advocate of the Year” will spotlight TikTok creators who have “taken LGBTQ visibility to new heights.” The nominees for this new recognition are Denise & Ebony, Kyne, Crissa Jackson, Chris Olsen, Ian Paget, Josh Helfgott, Ve’ondre Mitchell, Dr. Austin Chiang, MD MPH and Christine Marshall. You can vote for your favorite here until voting closes on March 12.
Earlier this year, GLAAD announced the nominees for the annual awards, including artists like Sam Smith, Halsey, Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert and more. GLAAD also announced their new music category, for outstanding breakthrough artist, featuring musicians like Arca, Chika, Rina Sawayama and others.
The 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, hosted by Niecy Nash, will take place Tuesday, April 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
