On Monday (April 22), GLAAD announced that transgender singer songwriter Mila Jam will be headlining the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York City, sponsored by Google. The singer will perform a special set following this year’s award ceremony.
Jam is just one among a cast of fabulous stars who will be attending this year’s awards ceremony. Drag Race superstar Shangela will host the ceremony, Madonna is set to receive the Advocate for Change Award for her continued contributions in the fight for LGBTQ rights, while the Vito Russo Award will go to Bravo host Andy Cohen.
Jam has seen her career blossom over the last few years, evolving from YouTube personality to upcoming artist. In an interview with Billboard last year, Jam said that she wanted to see her career grow even further without being stopped due to her identity. “My dream is to be able to grow in that and…not get pushed aside and told I can’t because someone else is judging me.”
The 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards will take place on May 4 at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York City, and will be aired Sunday, May 12 on Logo.
