“Can I pick you up for 20 minutes so we can have a dance party to my new single?” That’s what L.A.-based pop singer Mario Jose asked some of his closest friends before pulling up with a rainbow-striped Tesla to film Carpool Karaoke-style footage for his new music video, “You Were The One,” (out today).
“As we passed people on the street, we giggled because of all the glares we got being in a rainbow Tesla,” Jose tells Billboard. Passengers in the fun-filled clip include Pentatonix’s Scott Hoying, This Is Us star Chrissy Metz, Broadway babe Shoshana Bean and The Four breakout Vincint.
“You Were The One” was inspired by a real-life relationship: “this particular love story happens to be about one of my best friends I grew up with and how she fell in love with her now-husband,” the singer says. He teamed-up with producer Joel Manduke (who also appears in the video) to create the summer love sound.
Several other singers, songwriters and media personalities make cameos in the clip: Brooke Simpson, Beck Pete, Sam Tsui, Vince Rossi, Ryan Parma, Jordan Doww, Michael Mancuso, Carrie Manolakos and Brandon Stansell can all be seen jamming out to the track.
